WE LOVE OUR PARTNERS !
We rely on volunteers to staff events, act as ambassadors in the community, and support our education efforts to shelters, rescue groups, and foster families. Our efforts range from wildlife rehabilitation, giving abused and neglected animals a second chance at life, helping with spay/neuter efforts throughout our community, and more. The Greater Charlotte Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) serves the animals and people of Charlotte, NC and the surrounding counties. We are an autonomous organization not affiliated with or supported by any other SPCAs, including the ASPCA. The Greater Charlotte SPCA is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Mission and Values
The Humane Society of Charlotte operates and maintains its social media sites to provide information about our programs, services, projects, issues, events and activities. We welcome participation on the Humane Society of Charlotte’s various social media pages, and we encourage you to participate in our online community. If you have a compassionate heart and a desire to provide temporary homes and care for animals in need, we invite you to embark on a journey of love, growth, and transformation. Together, we can create a brighter future for animals. If you wish to take a dog on a staycation to make sure that they work in the household and in your family, you will not be allowed to pre-adopt and you'll have to wait until the due out date.
The pre-adoption program is the fastest track to finding an animal a new home. If you bring your dog to the shelter, know that they CANNOT go into the dog kennels. It would be best to leave your pet at home or have someone come with you to hang out with your dog if you plan to go offsite for a dog/dog interaction. Security PolicyYour payment and personal information are always safe. Our Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions.
This means that another party could pre-adopt the dog. Select animals are eligible for pre-adoption after passing a health and behavior assessment when they arrive at the shelter. In order to fast track these animals into a home as quickly as possible, you can pre-adopt them while they wait their stray hold time. If they are not reclaimed by an owner adopters will be contacted when they are ready to go home. GCSPCA is always looking for dedicated animal lovers to join us.

Kittens/ Cats that were rescued off the streets or abandoned. By adopting one of the pets from a shelter in Charlotte, you will help make space for moreabandoned pets in the shelters. You will also give a new life to a pet that could’ve been euthanized. To see or meet the adoptable pets at the Toomey Ave location, make an appointment. In addition to our CPR certification, we also have a range of safety protocols in place to ensure that your pets are always safe and secure while in our care.
Adopt
Walk in the same direction for a bit before crossing paths and turning. This allows the dogs to smell where the other has walked. It is important to get the dogs used to each other on neutral ground before trying interactions in the home. Baby gates, exercise pens, and sturdy dog crates are necessary for preventing any greetings too soon.
We provide them with medical attention, rehabilitate them physically and emotionally, and care for them in foster homes until they can be placed in loving permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. A lot of our adoptable pets have no background history, and no notes based on behavior around dogs, cats, kids, or house training. However, a lot of our volunteers know a little more about our dogs based on the walks they provide, and our fosters have the most knowledge about the dogs in their care. If you need assistance with finding the best match for you, your family, and lifestyle fill out our adopter profile form.
Our team of dedicated animal lovers is committed to ensuring that every pet is treated with kindness, compassion, and respect throughout the rehoming process. To meet the dogs eligible for this program, you must come to the shelter to see/visit/adopt. No animals will be placed on hold if you call/email/text/chat/message on social channels. We are always in need of volunteers to help with events, fundraising, transporting, and helping with vet visits. Email us at if you want to experience being a part of saving a dog’s life.
If you or your new pet are having troubling adjusting to the change, please reach out. You can call our shelter’s main line or email our onsite behavior team at Monetary donations of any size are beneficial and welcome. GCSPCA is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
